LILLIES VARITIES
Lillium is a high value floriculture crop whose production is undertaken in protected cultivation i.e. greenhouse. There are two major varieties which are having high demand in the Indian market. Oriental and Asiatic. Each spike of oriental variety of flower sells for an average wholesale price of Rs 35 per spike and asiatic variety fetches Rs 25 per spilke.
In a 100 sq mtr greenhouse, an average of 3500 bulbs can be planted. In the hills, a farmer can take 2 crops annually. The crop duration of Asiatic is 90 days from date of planting to flowering (varietal characterisitc dependency) and Oriental takes 120 days to bloom from the date of planting.
